A Hike for Families - Hiking Salzburgerland

Starting from Hiking Hotel Brückenwirt it takes about 2 hours to reach the Vogei Hütten on St. Johanner's local mountain Hahnbaum. This hike is an easy - moderately difficult hike and very popular among the locals.

The starting point is the Hotel Brückenwirt. Once you turn left, you come to the promenade and walk in the forest from the first step. At the end of the St. Johanner Promenade is the forest swimming pool, which you bypass again on the left. From here the path is excellently signposted. Now walk along the path through the forest and past various Kneipp pools until you reach the Vogei Hüttn. The hike is steep in parts, but at the end of the tour you are rewarded with a phenomenal view over St. Johann and the Tennengebirge.

Up to the Hochgründeck 1,808 metres

The hike to the Hochgründeck starts in St. Johann from the Hahnbaumalm or the Vogei Hütte. You can see this hiking route as a supplement to the Vogei Hütte hike or you can drive by car (approx. 30 minutes from the Hotel Brückenwirt) to the starting point Hahnbaumalm. The difficulty of the route is in the medium range and takes about  3 hours from the starting point.

The first ascent is in the forest and the second ascent is after a saddle. The tour is about 6 km long and the destination is the Heinrich Kienerhaus or the Peace Church of St. Vincent.

Tip: Reward yourself with a Kaiserschmarren and enjoy the sunrise. From the vantage point at the Heinrich Kienerhaus you can see over 4 places and have a view of over 300 peaks.

Culinary delights at the highest level in Goldegg Weng

The absolute insider tip is the Meislsteinalm at 1,300 metres in Goldegg Weng.

From St. Johann to the starting point Böndlsee it is only 20 minutes by car. Here you can park and start the hike. The route to the Meislsteinalm is an easy 40-minute hike. It is an ideal change for mountain bikers as well as casual hikers. Passing grazing cows and calves, you walk along a sunny mountain ridge. Once you arrive at the hut, you will be warmly welcomed by the hut's landlady Alex. Don't miss the Brettljause and order a "Meiselspoaß"-Cocktail to match the sunset.

Mountain lake hike at 1,810 metres

The starting point is the car park at Jägersee in Kleinarl. This is about 28 minutes by car from the Brückenwirt hiking hotel. The hike around the Tappenkarsee takes 6 hours and is approx. 17 km long.

Scenically, the Tappekarsee hike is a jewel in the Salzburg mountains. The trail first leads through a forest and then climbs in moderately steep switchbacks. The hiking trail is in a landscape conservation area and the lake is considered the highest Gebiergsee in the Eastern Alps.

The hiking bus to the Jägersee leaves directly from the front door of the Hotel Brückenwirt. This takes about 50 minutes. This is the starting point to the Tappenkarsee.
The hiking bus costs only €1 for you with a guest card.

The Liechtensteinklamm is up to 300 metres deep in some places and only a few metres wide in others. You can visit the gorge via boardwalks and at the end there is a romantic waterfall. 

Many stories and saga have been told around such a mystical place. The legend of the St. Johann Liechsteinklamm, for example, tells that a long time ago a farmer negotiated clumsily with the devil. The farmer from St. Johann wanted to get the devil to bring the Gastein healing springs to the village. As payment, the farmer would give away his wife to the devil. But this had to be done by the next morning. Tricked by the farmer's wife, she dipped the tap into the well water before the next day dawned. Full of rage, the devil, realising that he had lost the weather, smashed the wells into the depths of the rocky gorge - so that no man could get hold of the water.
